Karamürsel - Büyükada Ferry Services 2026
The Karamürsel - Büyükada ferry line is part of the special Princes' Islands service organized by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality during the summer months. A single ferry picks up passengers sequentially from İzmit at 08:30 → Değirmendere at 09:15 → Karamürsel at 10:00 → Darıca at 11:15, then proceeds to Büyükada. This allows passengers boarding from different districts of Kocaeli to travel directly to Büyükada without transfers. Departure from Karamürsel pier is at 10:00, with arrival in Büyükada around 12:15.
Service Days and Season
Services operate as round trips every Sunday between June 22 and September 21, 2026. As the line only runs during the summer season and once a week (Sunday), it is designed for those wishing to enjoy a day trip to the island. The ferry remains in Büyükada throughout the day and begins its return journey at 17:30.
Departure Time from Karamürsel
- Outbound (Sunday): Karamürsel 10:00 departure → Büyükada ~12:15 arrival
- Return (Sunday): Büyükada 17:30 departure → Karamürsel ~19:45 arrival
Since the ferry also calls at other piers along the İzmit Gulf coast before its main departure, the times are set according to the single ferry's intra-gulf route. Return services from Büyükada towards Karamürsel are listed on a separate page.
Ticket Prices (2026)
Round-trip tour ticket departing from Karamürsel: 350 TL for adults, 225 TL for students. The price includes both outbound and return journeys; it is structured as a single round-trip tour. Ticket fares vary by departure pier — the Darıca departure, being closest to the island, has the most favorable fare.
Reservations Mandatory
Due to limited capacity on these services, advance reservations are mandatory. Reservations can be made via Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality's websites at kdu.kocaeli.bel.tr or www.kocaeli.bel.tr. It is recommended to book your spot in advance rather than arriving at the pier on Sunday morning without a reservation.
Why a Ferry from Kocaeli to Büyükada?
During the summer months, ferries to the Princes' Islands from within Istanbul become extremely crowded, especially on weekends, leading to long queues at Bostancı and Kabataş piers. This direct service from Kocaeli allows passengers to reach Büyükada with a pleasant sea journey, completely bypassing Istanbul traffic and crowded transfer piers. The views of both sides of the İzmit Gulf and the Sea of Marmara transform the journey itself into a scenic tour.
A Day on Büyükada
Since the ferry arrives in Büyükada before noon, approximately five hours remain for exploring the island. Electric vehicles that have replaced horse-drawn carriages, bicycle tours, a climb to Aya Yorgi Church, historic mansions, and seaside fish restaurants provide ample time for a day trip. It is recommended to plan your time on the island to be ready at the pier for the 17:30 return departure.
