Fare Hike Proposal Debated in the Assembly
During the discussions of the fare hike proposal, differences of opinion emerged among political party groups in the IMM Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the AK Party Group, Assembly and Tariff Commission Member Meryem Karaköse stated that they opposed the new hike decision, noting that only about four months had passed since the last price increase. Karaköse argued that rising costs should not be burdened on the citizens' shoulders.
Speaking on behalf of the CHP Group, Assembly and Tariff Commission Member Mustafa Karaoğlu stated that operating costs—especially fuel prices, bridge, and highway tolls—are constantly increasing, making the fare hike proposal a necessity.
Following the vote in the assembly, the proposal was accepted by a majority vote, and it was announced that the new fare tariff will be implemented across Istanbul starting Monday, July 20, 2026.
