İDO İstanbul Deniz OtobüsleriİDO announced it will resume services on the Taşucu-Kyrenia ferry route in the Mediterranean as of September 28. Following the recent Filo Jet tragedy, İstanbul Deniz Otobüsleri, moving to meet the region's sea transport needs, shared its detailed schedule and ticket prices for October with the public. This new arrangement offers a significant alternative for passengers traveling between Taşucu and Kyrenia.
New Service Schedule and Ticket Prices
According to the schedule announced by İDO, the details of the services from Taşucu to Kyrenia and from Kyrenia to Taşucu are as follows:
- From Taşucu to Kyrenia: Between October 1-10, services will be operated daily at 15:30.
- From Kyrenia to Taşucu: Until October 11, return services will be operated daily at 11:00.
- After these dates, services are planned to continue every other day. Passengers are advised to check İDO's official channels for the updated schedule.
Ticket Prices
The determined ticket prices are as follows:
- Full Fare Ticket: 2.509 TL
- Discounted Ticket: 2.250 TL
- Round-trip Ticket: 4.500 TL
Statement from İDO General Manager
Dr. Murat Orhan, General Manager of İDO, in his statement regarding the new service schedule, said, "We closely monitor demands from our passengers and strive to introduce new alternatives for sea transport where we see a need. Our Taşucu–Kyrenia route is a result of this approach." Orhan emphasized the importance of the route, stating, "Now, with our Taşucu–Kyrenia services, we are meeting our passengers in the Mediterranean as well."
Previous Situation in the Region and Investigation
İDO's commencement of services on this route comes after the Filo Jet tragedy that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30, claiming 15 lives. Following this tragic incident, services belonging to Filo Denizcilik were suspended by the TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport until further notice. However, this decision did not cover the services of all operators on the Kyrenia–Taşucu route.
Search efforts for the 13 missing persons following the tragedy are ongoing, and the investigation into the incident is being meticulously pursued. It has been stated that the navigation data recorder, which is critically important for clarifying the cause of the accident, has not yet been recovered.
